Product Detail

The UA 175B & 176 Tube Compressor Collection brings you the rich tube gain - reduction character and amazing sonic flexibility of UA founder Bill Putnam Sr.'s revolutionary limiters. This is the sole authentic plug - in emulation that offers the same legendary sounds as the rare hardware. It comes in two versions. The UAD Native runs on your Mac or PC without UA hardware (AAX, AU, VST3). The Apollo Realtime & UAD - 2 runs at an accelerated speed on Apollo interfaces and UAD - 2 hardware (AAX, AU, VST2, and VST3). Introduced in the 1960s and used on countless classic records, the UA 175B and 176 were the first studio - built compressors for music recording and mixing. They provide fast attack time and independently variable Attack and Release controls. Based on UA's 1960s units, this collection gives you all the ultra - musical harmonics and colorful saturation, thanks to its magical feedback compression circuit. It offers softer compression at low input levels and nearly brickwall limiting at high levels. Ideal for vocals, drums, guitars and more, the UA 175B and 176 plug - ins capture the essence of the originals. You can use them to add depth to room mics or drum buses, define guitars, balance bass in a mix, and energize vocals. You can even use them as a 'tone box' by turning off the compression. Features include adding vintage compression and detail to various audio sources, spicing up synths with tube and transformer saturation, enhancing dynamics with ratio controls, using plug - in - only features like Dry/Wet Mix and Headroom, and compatibility with any audio interface without UA hardware.

Using the UA 175B & 176 Tube Compressor Collection is quite straightforward. First, choose the version that suits your setup - if you don't have UA hardware, go for the UAD Native which runs on your Mac or PC. If you have Apollo interfaces or UAD - 2 hardware, the Apollo Realtime & UAD - 2 version will offer accelerated performance. When using it on vocals, drums, guitars or other sources, start by adjusting the ratio controls (2:1, 4:1, 8:1 and 12:1) to enhance the dynamics as you like. You can also use the Dry/Wet Mix parallel processing and Headroom features to customize the operating level. If you want to use it as a 'tone box', simply turn off the compression. For synths, it can add a nice touch of tube amplifier and transformer saturation. As for maintenance, since it's a software plug - in, make sure your computer's operating system is up - to - date. Keep an eye on the software updates provided by Universal Audio to ensure you have the best performance and new features. Also, when installing or uninstalling the plug - in, follow the official instructions to avoid any software conflicts.
